SCOPE 1.1     Purpose

The scope of work for this specification includes preparing sugrade, placing of granular sub-base courses, granular base courses, dense bituminous macadam binders and bituminous concrete for the access and plant roads, as well as the requirements for granular base and concrete roads. In cases where more than one code, regulation, specification and standard apply to the same condition, the most stringent shall be followed. In the event of a conflict between this specification and other specifications or correspondence, the COMPANY shall be consulted and a ruling, in writing, shall be obtained before any work is started.

1.2    Standards

 

1.2.1 All materials, equipment and workmanship shall be governed by, but not limited to, the latest version of the following standards.

1.5    Definitions

 

COMPANY:        The COMPANY means Cairn Energy Pty Limited, and its subsidiaries or authorized representatives.

 

CONTRACTOR: Person(s), company, firm, manufacturers, fabricator or vendor.

 

2.0 EXAMINATION

 

The site shall be examined for work that might affect the construction of the road. Particular attention shall be paid to underground cables, pipes, manholes and roadside drains etc.

 

3.0 MATERIALS

 

3.1    Sub-Base Course Materials

 

3.1.1 The sub-base course materials shall be hard, durable and clean granular materials such as sand, or approved granular material and, shall be free of organic material, clay balls and other deleterious substances.

 

3.1.2 The sub-base material shall be well graded and shall conform to following gradation limits; or approved equal:

3.2    Wet Mix Macadam Road Base

 

3.2.1 The road base to be placed on top of the granular sub-base shall comprise wet mix macadam material laid to the specified thickness for width, line and levels shown on the drawings. The materials shall be crushed rock, hard durable particles or fragments of rock crushed to the correct sizes, well graded and shall have a grading conform to the following gradation limits or approved equal:
